Voting Question: How can I get a loan?

I haven't got very good credit and really need a loan. I have a lot of payments coming out tomorrow and do not have the funds to pay them and my car is in the garage being fixed so I need to pay for that too. Is there a company that I can go to that will give me a loan with a bad credit rating (I am not a homeowner) without charging me a fee upfront? I live in the UK. I don't want a payday loan, I would like a monthly repayment one. more

Resolved Question: Ford credit with bad credit?

I currently have a car with ford credit (car loan) and it runs out in 1 year, so I take the car back and hopefully get a new one. My credit rating is not so good so I am worried I will be refused a new car. However people have told me, that they don't go through the whole process again as I already have a lease with them they will just renew it. Is this true? I have been with ford credit for 6 years now.So, when my car is due to go back in 1 year, I can still get a new one on ford credit?? more

Resolved Question: i have a car on credit and the amount i have to pay back is near extorsion..any advice on what i can do please?

i got a car on credit from a small car firm, but due to having bad credit rating at the time they could only get one lender willing to loan the amount i needed for the car..my partner at the time took care of the finance details(all in my name) with this lender as im not to good with that sort of stuff..anyway,its a few years down the line and i had kept up with the payments until i suffered severe hardship of losing employment and break up of my relationship which caused me to suffer with depression..due to the depression i abandoned all off my responsabilities and shut myself away..im fully recovered now and wanted to get my life back on track and contacted the lender to see what my outstanding bill was and couldnt believe how much was still owed..the lender said i still owe 5,500 pounds and had paid a total of 3,900 pounds..the car only cost 2,900 pounds at the car wholesalers where i got it..so how can i be charged nearly 10,000 pounds for a Yreg renault cleo..this has got to be unfair, but is there anything i can do to sort this out as i refuse to pay that much for this car..i am currently only recieving benefits..please help..thanx more

Resolved Question: How would this affect my credit rating?

Car bought on Hire Purchase (not a loan) and part way through the agreement I hand the car back to the person/company with whom I entered the agreement with for any reason or no reason at all. I am aware that with a loan this is not an option I can hand it back but am responsible for the difference between the on sale of the car and the loan and it wil affect my credit ratingwphoo I'm not sure if you understand the difference between anHP contract and a loan contract< what yo say is corect for a loan but HP is rather different more

Resolved Question: Car leasing - credit checks?

Hello people! So, I'm thinking of leasing a car for the next three years, and financialy it stacks up for me... However I have a poor credit rating, which has hindered me gaining standad loads etc in the past. I do have a good income each month so I can meet any payments. What's the story on credit checks if I were to apply for car leasing, is it "easier" to sign up for leasing than it is for standard personal/car manufacturer car loans? Hope you can help! Resolved Question: Car finance?? What do we do?

I have a drivers licence, my husband does not. He earns, i do not. This already makes finance enquiry's complicated. Next we have a poor credit rating. We have a friend who has agreed to be guarantee. We have just tried one finance company/ garage and they said the only way to do it is for our friend to buy the car and add our bank details. We dont really want to do it this way. What are these guaranteed car loan places like, how much over the odds are we to pay and are there any hidden conditions applied. We bought a lemmon of a car for cash last year privavtly , this is why we do not have the ready cash to make our puchase with now. We desperatly need a people carrier as ours is definitly on its last legs. Where shall we go. more

Is the credit card interest rate gonna be really high ?If I was to go to a car dealer are they not just a loan too? Resolved Question: How would your parents react...?

Imagine you were in your 20's and needed a new car. Your parents have a good bit of money. You wanted to borrow 6k off them because you're stuck and can't get a loan. You propose to pay back the 6k plus 10% within two years at a monthly rate of 275£ ( x 24 = 6600). Would they agree to it, or send you to hell? more

Voting Question: I want to get a car, but can i afford it?

I'm 19 and employed full time. I passed my test only a couple of months ago and have done my pass plus and now I want to get a car. I dont really want to take out a loan because I have nothing to secure it against and I rent my flat. I've looked at a website called Young Marmalade and they do hire purchase deals on brand new and nearly new cars for young people and do quite cheap insurance too, however the rate of interest is quite high. Resolved Question: How can I build up a good credit rating?

I'm 26yrs old & met my hubby when I was 14yrs, he took everything on in his name and now everytime I apply for anything I get turned down once they do a credit score. I've never had a credit card or loan, I want a £2000 loan so I can update my car myself - my hubby got our current car on finance but I'm fed up with being a kept woman I earn my own money and pay my way so I want to do this instead of him having it all in his name. Resolved Question: Credit union loans? How do they work? Too good to be true?

I have gotten myself into a little bit of a pickle with credit card debts, and I don't want to keep transferring the balances as I don't think my credit rating is all that great as it is, and don't want to damage it any further. I have been thinking about getting a personal loan to pay off my cards, cut my cards up and get back on my feet. Whilst visiting www.moneysavingexpert.com I came across a section on Credit Unions. I visited the link of my local credit union, and it seems too good to be true - they offer a rate of 9.9% to everyone, regardless of personal circumstances/amount borrowed and credit rating. I realise I have to join, and pay an amount to a savings account with them each month, but they also stipulate that you can pay as little as £1 per month. What's the catch? It seems like the perfect solution. I think the loans may be based on affordability, which I hope there shouldn't be any problem with. I still live at home, and manage to make regular payments each month to cover all my cards/car insurance/phone bills etc. The loan repayment would work out cheaper than what I am having to pay monthly as it is. more

Resolved Question: Can HMRevenue &Customs Officer tax possessions that I own & that are in my name for a debt in my husbands name?

We have had a bad couple of years financially and my husband has struggled to pay his tax bill. My Husband owes about £9000 in tax. He has phoned the tax office many times to explain his situation and they agreed to a payment plan. My husband has been paying off £200 every month which is all we can afford. All of a sudden they have started to get funny and have now sent a letter which we received this morning saying if the rest is not paid in full by the 5th of January then they will start legal proceeding against my husband and will send a office to seize possessions. We have not done any thing wrong my husband has not missed a payment and isn't refusing to pay. He is no longer working self employed and is employed and is paying his normal tax every month of top of the £200 per month instalments. He is going to contact them again on monday to find out why they are doing this and why he can't continue to pay by instalments. He has also written a letter to send to them too. We do not have £9000 to pay off the rest and there is no way we can find £9000 in one week. We can't take out a loan as we have poor credit rating. We are starting to sort out our debts and have managed to pay of most of our debts and can now afford to pay larger instalments each month towards this tax bill. But my question is If they do take legal action and send a HM Revenue & Customs Officer around can they take my possessions that I own and that are in my name. If I have proof that they are in my name and have been paid with my money. Im most concerned about my car. I purchased a new car (not a brand new car) last week as our old car was on it last legs and also we needed a bigger car. I paid with my money and am the registered owner of car. My husband is insured to drive the car but is not the owner. Can they take the car if its in my name. We rely on the car. We have 2 children with special needs one with Autism and one with cerybral palsy. We have to go back to hospital regually for check ups. Also im expecting our 3rd child and am a high risk pregnancy and have to go to hospital every week. The nearest hospital is a 40 minute drive away so we rely heavily on the car and would be very stuck with out it. Any advice would be much appreciated Thanks in advanceThanks for your advice so far. in answer to lightworker response I had to buy a new car as the car we had kept breaking down. And the sun roof was leaking beyond repair. There was so much mildew & mould in car that it was not healthy to use to drive the children around. We needed some thing reliable to get are children to there hospital appointments. Like I said before I did not buy a brand new car. Its a second hand car that only cost me £900 so its not like I spent thousands. A car is essential to us.Also we did not get in to debt by not acting resposibly. We did not ask or want to get in to so much debt it just happend. 3 years ago we did not have any debt my husband started a new job but one month after he started they told him they had found some one else who would work for less money and told him to leave. It took him many months to find more work. And whilst he was out of work we had to take out loans and use credit cards to pay the bills to keep a roof over ours & our sons head. we did what we thought was right at the time. once my husband had found new work we started paying off the debts off as quickly as we could. But unfortunatly we had to use some of the money that we had ment to use to pay off the tax to pay other debts. Stupid I know but again we did what we thought was right at the time. We have now cleared most of are other debts and this is the main one left. We are not refusing to pay it and are trying to pay what we can afford each month. When I posted this question I was asking for advice. I was not asking for coments and rudence about our situation. It is easy for people who have never been in debt to coment and say how stupid people in debt are but you have to have been there to really understand. more

hi everyone, i bought a car on finance from a garage. a company called WELCOME provided the finance - at a very high interest rate. i've repeatedly asked them for a settlement figure so i can pay off the loan early. Resolved Question: What would you do if in this frustrating dilemma?

If you have been seeing your partner for a year now, ,living with him in his house owned by his ex and he cant sell his house...what do you do? He tried buying her out but ending up missing 4 months payments re mortgage so couldnt get a loan, then he missed car payments in June and that nearly got towed away. His parents (he is 41) bailed him out of 6k and 2k to clear the car and the house off for those months. Now at Dec last year he was still on a dating site which he denied talking to anyone but clearly he was and is now off...I hope! A year on, and I caught him sending an email to someone on there mentioning either women or drugs that I cant get my head around still, again he denies it all..and another female when we broke up at Christmas time. He is trying to sell the house to break free from the ex, she wont hand the house over in his name because she thinks she is getting money, but as there is a repayment for both of £35k (as well as the mortgage) they both need to pay that but she hasnt at all in the year, only once so really in this year she is getting off scott free while my partner still pays the mortgage which he cant afford. He says I am using him and doesnt want a convenient relationship, I ask myself what on earth is he on about and then goes on to say he wants to sell the house, move in with me, or rent and then get married after that...something doesnt sound right here? He has started a new job recently and has a new company car so needs to sell his old one so that he can pay that off, but hasnt yet. WIth him its always in the process in his time, which for me is really frustrating as I like to get things done and enquire etc...he is quite the opposite and does it in his time! We have been arguing constantly now everynight because its always on my mind and cant move forwrad. I have a flat rented out and he suggested once his house sells to move into there for a shortwhile until we can buy, which for us could be a while because of his credit rating ie not paying for things, etc etc. So what do I get out of this, someone with bad credit rating and going backwards in life rather than buying together. He even admitted if we rented it would need to be in my name because of his credit rating. I have now ended up resenting up, he said to me last night ina fit of an argument that my head wasnt screwed on properly and I am mental, I have a problem and I am psychotic because I come in get angry, get frustrated about this but what makes me laugh is that he admits its all his doing.... I tried to walk out last night, if I do, I have nothing to lose because I have a life ahead of me and financial grounding, whereas he hasnt. At the moment I am feeling drained by it all alongside feeling like crap and frustrated because of the ex situation. Now and again she sends him texts asking how the house selling is coming along, part of me doesnt care anymore. I pay for the food, the other bills and generally try and keep the peace but it doesnt help with the housing market taking a dive. The house has been dropped by 70k, if they drop another 10k there will be no equity in the house at all. What would you do if you were me, please pleae help. Miss frustrated here xxMany thanks for all your answers, there is only one option really to get out which is the hardest of them all I guess....I think discussing this on my own, having time out and just being on my own would help tremendously. time will tell I guess.... more

Resolved Question: Now the "Credit Crunch" is limiting access to cheap credit?

Are people going to have to start living within their means and not expecting a rock star's lifestyle on a car mechanic's wage? I mean why does anyone need a 40" plasma TV and if you can't afford to pay for one in cash why on earth do you need to take out a finance package and pay through the nose for it?! Whats wrong with buying a sturdy, 12 year old car for £500 which is YOURS and won't be repossessed, why the need to take out a finance package for something costing £7,000 + interest and the risk of having it repo'd if you can't keep the payments up? Is it just so your friends will envy you or something? I used to use credit. A period of financial difficulty meant that I defaulted on a lot of my loans etc and my credit rating went so bad that I can't get any credit these days, and do you know what? In many ways its liberating! I'm not tempted to go out and buy things I can't afford just to keep up with the Joneses. Years ago people saved up for what they wanted, or - shock, horror - had to make do with second hand or less expensive stuff! Do yuo think we will be returning to that way of living and out of the debt-ridden mess that many peoples' lives have become? more

Resolved Question: Using an overdraft like a loan?

Hi all just want your imput on wether you think this is a good idea or not? I cant get a laon but have got an overdraft of £2500 that i am not in at all. I want to change my car for a few different reasons and selling my current car should give me £3000. But the car im after is £5000 . . you can probably see where im going with this. . i was going to use £2000 of my overdraft and the £3000 from selling my current car. I would then pay the overdraft off each month as if it was a loan (as in leave a certain amount of money in my account each month) I already worked out that interest on £2000 would be £26 a month, but obiously as each month goes by i would of payed off more so the interest will slowly go down. What do you guys think to this? Will i get stung with any hidden charges? Will this give me a bad credit rating, even tho its a planned overdraft? Any comments welcome =) ThanksI have spoken to the bank and they no what im planning and dont have a problem with it as i cant get a loan. To those who say about why im doing it and being able to pay it back. Changing my car from what i currently have is going to save me over£1400 a year on fuel and insurance. As far as paying it back, i work off to bank account, bills and spending . . i have £400 a month free to spend, so paying it back wont be a problem, i just need to change my car now thats the problem and why i cant wait and save. more

Resolved Question: UK tax system question plzzz help plzzz?

QUESTION 2 John is employed as a sales representative with a medium-sized company. During the tax year ended 5 April 2008, his basic salary was £48,000. He was provided throughout the year with a petrol-engined company car with an emissions rating of 190 grams/km and had cost the company £18,000 in June 2004, when it was 8 months old. John paid £3,000 towards the purchase of the car. Its list price at the date of manufacture was £24,000. The company paid all running costs of the car, including petrol totalling £4,500. The car was used 20% for private purposes and Julian paid his employer £100 a month towards the use of the car and £50 a month for private petrol. He also had the use of a Video Camera system which the company had bought for £1,500 on 6 October 2007, and which he had used at home ever since then. The company purchased a flat in 2006 for £140,000, which Julian lives in and pays £500 a month for the use of the flat. The “annual value” of the flat is £8,000. It is used entirely for private purposes. On 6 April 2005, he borrowed £16,000 from the company to buy a carvan for his family holidays. The company charged interest at 2% per annum on the loan, and he has not yet made any repayments. Voting Question: welcome finance early repayment charges?

i got a car on finance 6 months ago and because i was new to credit the only finance company that would touch me was welcome finance who had a very high interest rate of 40% but i was desperate to get a car for my new job and stupidly took it up. my credit rating has now improved and my bank has offered me a loan at a rate of 8.9% which means if i use this loan to pay off wfs i would save £150 a month. anyway today i called for my settlement figure and was told that it was £7304 but i borrowed £7240 over 4 years for the car in the first place. i have so far made 5 payments of £280 and have always paid on time and never missed a payment which means that i have so far paid back £1400. in their terms and conditions they state that if i want to pay back the agreement early i would have to pay a penalty of 2 months interest which is about £240 from how i calculated it. so my question is after paying £1400 of the original £7240 that i borrowed how have they come up with a settlement figure of £7304. shouldn't it be 7240+240(2 mnths interest penalty) - 1400 which is £6080. this is what i thought the settlement figure would be and not the £7304 they are talking about. i asked them how they worked out this figure and they said it was the computer that came up with the figure. how can £1500 be equivalent to 2 months interest. any suggestions on how i can deal with this. (i know i was stupid to take out finance at such a high apr)the interest is taken off and you are charged 2 months interest as a penalty for paying back early. more

i want to buy cheap car insurance i would rather pay monthly as we dont have the full amount. but i read that :- the insurer actually loans you the annual cost and charges you interest for the privilege usually the rates are hideous. So either pay it off in full or repay a credit card with 0% interest my quote was only £30 a month, which id be happy paying back or will they charge me more? i thought that this was paying for the actual insurance? is it ok to pay monthly or not? help more

Voting Question: Scared and no where to turn, need help, any suggestions?

I'm completely broke and need to pay 2 secured loans, mortgage arrears of £200 and have the baliffs round on friday if I don't pay £450 and my car needs MOT and repairs. Get paid monthly but we had CSA Deduction of earnings this month which took £600 straight away wheich meant we couldn't pay anything other than the mortgage and food shopping. I have phone calls all the time and the only solution is to get another loan for £2500 which is what I need to get ourselves back on track and the car sorted, but the only loan I can get I need a guarantor for and have no one to ask + the interest rate is huge. any suggestions, i'm so scared I'm going to end up losing my home which I only got last year as I have a 2 year and 5 year and need security for them. Resolved Question: Loan/financial advice?

I am looking to get a minimum of £7000 for a car but would like £10000 to consolidate my current debt. Does it affect the chances if you ask for more and what about the time period? I would like to be paying as little as possible so was thinking over a long period. I currently have a mortage so can get a secured loan. My credit rating has come up with 'fair' i think due to just buying a house and all the recent credit applications for new bills and stuff. What do i need to do or say to get the best possible chance of being accepted? As i dont want to apply to lots of places as that will make my credit even worse. would just like some advice if anyone knows things that boost or make your chances worse. Thanks for any comments more

Resolved Question: Retraining options for a 25 year old unskilled male worker?

I'd like some advice. Has has an interest in cars and mechanics and served 18 month of a mechanics apprenticeship 7 years ago (family reasons meant he had to move away and leave his apprenticeship). Currently works as a driver for a hire firm on minimum wage. Would like to be a driving instructor. We cannot possibly self-fund (no savings or credit facilities, and family won't help) so would need a course for which a grant/loan was available (cannot get a CDL- poor credit rating). Cannot afford to give up work and study full time (we have a small mortgage to pay and a child to support) His employer refuses to help or subsidise any training. I'm not interested in judgements about our situation, just contructive help from knowledgeable people, thanks! We live in the UK. So only UK-relevant info, please! more

Resolved Question: Who owns the loan if my mother's name is on the loan first?

My mother's in on my auto loan so that I could get a lower interest rate. The bank put her name first because that's how it appears on her checking account at the bank (my name is on her checking acct also and has been for yrs). Since her name appears first on the loan, is the bank looking at it as the car is in her name only? My reason for asking is if I want to purchase another vehicle with just my name on it, can I say that this first vehile does not belong to me?The vehicle is registered in my mother's name only. more

Resolved Question: Tax Freedom Day - June 2nd?

Tax Freedom Day this year falls on June 2nd!! Only 5 weeks to go until we have, on average, paid all our taxes and are then free to enjoy our own money. This means that for 155 days of the year, every penny earned by the average UK resident was taken to support government expenditures. http://www.adamsmith.org/tax-freedom-day/ This is now a full week later than 2002. This year in America it was on April 23rd (113 days). Taxes include: income tax, VAT, inheritance tax, stamp duty, car and fuel taxes, excise taxes on alcohol and cigarettes, taxes on companies and employment, and many more. If they carry on rising at the rate they have been, which admittedly is unlikely (we hope!), it won't be much longer before you will spend more time working for the government than you do for yourself. In fact, if you take into account government borrowing, Tax Freedom Day doesn't come until 14th June as we spend those extra days paying off the interest on Gordon's loans (deferred taxation). Thoughts?'Old Know All' - WOW its Tony Benn. I did not know you could use the Internet. Spoken like a true socialist. Keep flying the flag comrade :) more
