Fever of unknown origin,for 7 months.. whats next? If infectious disease cannot find out the reason for fever of unknown origin, and general family doctor cannot. What is the next step? I have been sick since december when giving birth to my son... 7 months ago. Running higher temps of 99 to 100. and while it isn't a HIGH fever it has me feeling really-- REALLY run down. The only thing that came back a little high was my sed rate of 29, which my doctor said could happen just because I am a women. Alto of times I just want to sleep, because I am so tired. I want to do things but am so wiped out from feeling sick all the time. my symptoms are : seeing double, every now and then when focusing on one thing, things in the background go double. general achy Ness that comes and goes dry eyes slow healing, skin changes-- little bumps etc that come and go. feet turned blue for the first time yesterday, along with wrist swelling- looks okay today but doctor has no answer what so ever for why it could have happened Tests I had done: Abdomen ct -recent chest ct -recent urine cultures-recently blood cultures -recently head ct- done in feb Lyme's test Vaginal exams, Abdominal and vaginal ultra sounds Breast mamogram to check implant- came back normal was told that I would need an mri to know for sure if implant has ruptured the only other thing I really have going on that hasn't gone away, i have had a infected hair follicle in my groin area that has been there for the past 5 months, i took clindamycin for it twice, and have been using bacroban, it goes away almost the whole way then comes back again. i am going to be seeing about a dermatologist soon. i am curious to see if anyone has any answer no matter how far feched, that could be causing my low grade fever and extreme tiredness from what I read it could be cancer, but I am not sure how else they would test for something like that. I am so sick of going from doctor to doctor, and still feeling like this! more

Open Question: I exercise and eat well. Why am I gaining weight?

I know a lot of people claim to exercise and eat healthy but I REALLY do. I never diet (this encourages weight gain) but instead I eat whole grains, lots of veg and fruits, drink lots of water, a little coffee/tea and less than 14 units alcohol per week. I've gone to the trouble of adding up just how many calories I burn on average through exercise - a whopping 400 per day. Despite this, I have noticed my belly, thighs and arms inflating steadily over the past several weeks. Also for the past few weeks, I've had a constant pain in my left ovary and wind. I've always had a lot of pain during periods and ovulation but it normally doesn't last this long. Anyway, the doc is now doing CA 125 and coeliac tests (for cancer and gluten intolerance). He's already done thyroid and diabetes tests which came back normal. I'm only 31 and scared by the thought that there could be something seriously wrong with my ovaries. So I guess I'd like to hear from other people who've had my symptoms and find out what their diagnosis was, so I can get an idea of what to expect from these tests. Thanks! more

I'm 15 and i shave my underarms periodically (about once every other day). Just recently I noticed that a tiny bump appeared. It's about the size of a pinky nail. It kinda hurts? Not too bad. I'm wondering if it is a swollen lymph node? I asked my sister about it and she said it might have resulted from a cut when i was shaving.My sister also said to leave it alone and dont shave for a couple of days.Is there any other treatment? I am 46 and bleed continuously, sometimes light and sometimes very heavy. My bladder is also painful and I occasionly leak urine. I am not on private health, so I cannot see a specialist for about 4-5 months. Even then, they want to insert an IUD. I had to ask to get an ultrasound (small fibroid) and then ask to have a biopsy done. I had non invasive cervical cancer 20 years ago. I have depression and am on seroquel and pristiq. Please help! All the dentist/doctors offices are closed until Monday in observation of July 4 and I don't want to worry all weekend. Here is the problem; my gum tissue has gotten a lot worse in the last 6-8 months (swollen/bleeding) even though my dental care is better than ever. The hygenist recommended root planing and scaling, which I went ahead and started today. The dental hygenist was surprised that I did not have a causative agent (meaning that I did not have tartar but all the same my gums were in bad shape and bleeding.) She seemed confused and she kept saying "I have to ask the dentist. I have to ask the dentist." (The dentists were all gone because it was a 5 o'clock appt.) I had lymphoma 4 years ago and I have some autoimmune problems including Sjogren's Syndrome (very mild.) Anyway, the hygenist really scared me. She said that at best I am not getting enough Vitamin C, which is probably very true. I don't drink juice because of the sugar and I almost always go with vegetables over fruit. I am hoping this is the case because that would be an easy fix. I have no other symptoms of scurvy (no skin problems or bruising) except for fatigue and I think that is from stress and the cancer--which will never go away completely. My nails are a little thin but my hair is in great shape and I do not think I am anemic. (Last time when I got sick, it was breaking and tangling and I was pale and jaundiced.) Now that is not the case at all. Plus, everyone is telling me how nice I look. One more thing, I was dropped-kicked into menopause because of my treatment and am taking synthetic estrogen. I thought scurvy was very uncommon. Could it be something else. Can you offer any insight? more

Open Question: cervical cancer symptoms, what are alternative causes?

i am displaying most of the symptoms of cervical cancer: fortnightly periods, discomfort and significant bleeding (proper blood) during sex etc. i was on the pill microgen 30 (spelling) for a couple of years before a problem arose and i first changed pill, i've now tried four and being off the pill with no change. it is very unlikely i'm in danger of sti/d's. i have a smear test booked, but i have researched online (as it does give me some piece of mind) and it says these symptoms can be caused by many other things but doesn't say what?!? any ideas? thank you, i know i shouldn't be thinking about this so much before my results but i like being informed.i am only 18 so have never had a smear test before, and the symptoms have been progressing for about 10 months- only when the irregular periods began did i try switching pills, before then i had had no problems. the one i'm on currently has a higher hormone level but has no difference. more

well its been going on for about a year after i saw a tv show on TLC about a man with no face and how he got it from a rare type of mold, so i was interested with that and i looked up his disease and i looked at the symptoms, i had like 3 out of the list and i got scared (lol ya now that i think about this it was very stupid) and well just about a week ago my mom got a call from the doctor saying she may have pancreotic cancer and they found a mass on her pancreas, and well the doctor called back and she tested negative for any tumors or cancer so i was happy about that and i googled the symptoms for pancreatic cancer and i have 1 of the symptoms (pain in upper abdominal) and now i truely think i have cancer even when i know i dont...i didnt even match any of the "causes" except for 1, it said it was more common in people over 60 (im 15) more common in african americans (i am hispanic) more common in obese people (im skinny) the only thing i matched for was eating alot of red meat (fast food but who doesnt these days?) sooo ya my question is, how do i get over this? its really bothering me more

Hi I am a 17 year old male and I have been having stomach nauseau for about 2 weeks now. I went to the doctor last year because I was having stomach cramps but he said it was just me creating the pain from anxiety. The reason why he said this is because I have a phobia of getting cancer and I often get worried about it. Back on subject, I have only thrown up once from the nauseau and it was because I forced myself to because I heard that can fix stomach aches. Hi, I am a 19 year old guy, no health problems to report. I am a huge worry wart, and worry about things obsessively, but I usually get over it over time. However, recently I saw a stat that said 1 of 3 people will develop cancer. I just want people with knowledge about this situation to expand on that. For example, it is said that smoking and obesity contributes to almost 50% of cancer cases. Does that mean that someone who is of good weight and who doesn't smoke has less chance? I just look around and cancer is known as a very harsh, but still rare disease, at least that's what I thought. Certainly, 1 in 3 people that I know do not have cancer. I know it's based on a lifetime, but still, the odds make it seem like cancer is everywhere and it's hard to avoid it. Any insight on the issue would be appreciated, I'm trying to get over this but for 2 days I've been worried about this, and then I look up the symptoms and peoples stories, and I just get all bent out of shape. I'm sure I sound very petty to someone who actually has or had this disease, as I am healthy and wasting my time worrying about stuff that may never happen, but that's the position I'm in right now. I also started having urinary hesitancy. It can take a minute or more for me to get urine flow. My dad has threatened to kick me out of the house (jokingly) because I keep talking about this. He says i have some kind of infection at worst (i sure believe and hope so). Anyways, i wish i could be ok and relax thinking its a urinary tract infection, but ive got no pain or blood in urine. I dont have an STD because im a virgin. Im scared enough to have made an appointment for tomorrow with a urologist. Im hoping its either a bladder infection of some kind or a UTI without pain or blood (dont even know if its possible) I as a hypocondriac researched this for the past 2 days. Im way too young to either have an enlarged prostate or prostate cancer, however i have the hesitancy, urge to go frequently with little urine coming out, and no pain! these are some of the symptoms of prostate cancer and or enlarged prostate. I dont want to lose any more sleep from this, can anyone help me with reasons this cant be prostate cancer and how im just overreacting? Thanks so much! more

Hi everyone. I am a 21 yr old female who has been in remission from colon cancer for a year. My treatment was surgery and chemo. Naturally, like every other cancer survivor, I fear the cancer will return so I wanted to ask those who were unfortunate to have to deal with that what symptoms they experienced. I know everyone is different, etc etc but I would like to know peoples' experiences. Recently, I have been having brown outs fairly often, been feeling dizzy and nauseous as well as exhausted. Open Question: Is it painful ovulation?

I've noticed that sometimes i get a pain in my right side where i believe my ovary is. Its not hugely sore, but I'm a bit of a hypochondriac so i really worry about it. It lasts for a day or two. Im 16, have regular periods that usually aren't very painful (nothing excessive, some are more painful than others, but they're not sore enough to stop me doing/miss things eg. school. There's no pattern to the pain either, they aren't getting progressively worse or anything, sometimes they barley hurt at all. They're not heavy either) I don't get severe pelvic pain. The pain in my right side comes in the middle of my cycle, although i feel twinges at random times, (but i have been told that's normal) and it dosen't happen every time either, maybe every second or third. I think it might be painful ovulation. I heard it's most common on your right side, and dosent happen every cycle. Similar symptoms to mine. But when i google it, things like endometriosis and ovarian cancer sometimes crop up. I dont think i have the right symtoms for them, but would apprecate knowing what your thoughts are (whether its painful ovulation or not) It could even be nothing and im just scaring myself. Open Question: I had an abnormal and then a normal pap smear, boyfriend has genital warts? HELP?

I got a pap smear becasue my boyfriend told me he got genital warts and that whenever we had unprotected sex they came out. I then went to the doctor they scoped me out and said they saw nothing but my pap smear did come back abnormal. Me and my boyfriend quit having unprotected sex after we found out he had warts. We haven't since, and I just went back recently six months later like they told me to to check for any cancer cells, the results came back normal for the pap smear. My boyfrends genital warts did dissapear after he got them treated and I still haven't had any symptoms. What could this be, and do I have hpv when i'm getting two different results? HELP? more

I had a physical today and they said I need to go get a mole checked out by a dermotologist. i am only 14. I've had this mole all my life and it does have symptoms of skin cancer( dark, different colors, irregular border) but I haven't noticed it change at all from when I first noticed it 10 years ago.. I'm 17, I thought it was rare for teens to get breast cancer but the symptoms for breast cancer on a government site are swelling of all or part of the breast skin irritation or dimpling breast pain nipple pain or the nipple turning inward redness, scaliness, or thickening of the nipple or breast skin a nipple discharge other than breast milk a lump in the underarm area and I have skin irritation or dimpling breast pain nipple pain or the nipple turning inward redness, scaliness, or thickening of the nipple or breast skin a lump in the underarm area They say it is possible that it could be something else, but what could it be, I dont think its cyst cause I dont hav ethose big red lumps or any lumps on my breast but it feels liek im going to develop a lil lump on my armpit cause it hurts soo much an dI can feel teh lump inside when I compare to my other armpit and all these symptoms are on only my left breast. My period has already past for almost 2 weeks and I'm not pregnant. I am a hardworking father and husband. I usually do my taxes myself and am pretty knowledgeable about the process. By doing a worksheet, which is part of the software I normally use, I calculated I owed almost 2 thousand dollars to the IRS. Yikes! While pondering this I heard the TV ad for a nationally well known tax preparation services company. They guaranteed they could do better than what an individual could because they were “tax experts”. I spent some time with the tax expert at the local H&R Block office. He was less than impressive and I had to remind him several times that he had errors which were obvious to me. He kept assuring me that it passed the “tax scrutiny software provided by his company.” The preparer came back with a figure of $700 owed to the IRS. I was pleased and I paid them $450 for them to prepare all forms and, since it was offered, I paid for their "Peace of Mind" guarantee. Total cost to me with payment to the company and the IRS was $1150 or just over half of what I had calculated. Maybe these guys really are tax experts! Their guarantee was explained to me that if I ended up owing taxes that they had not for-seen or calculated for they would happily cover them, meaning that they would pay the taxes owed. They filed the taxes with my payment of $700 and, you guessed it, the IRS comes back a few days later and says there are multiple errors on this return and you owe $900 more! (Which is exactly what I had estimated myself and would have owed anyway!) I went to H&R Block and filed a claim under “Peace of Mind” with the office manager stating: “This is so obviously our fault.” Two weeks go by and I get a letter from their Home Office: “You claim is denied!” I called all over trying to reach someone about this matter. Everyone within the company I talked to stated: “This is so simple, we did not file your taxes correctly, we should pay any taxes that the IRS says you owe.” By this time it is now 4 weeks after the claim was denied. Of course that is what was said. However, you would not believe the phone chase, endless e-mails and call backs during my work time that I endured trying to get this company to honor their advertised commitment to accurate tax preparation. Finally, I went to discuss with District Manager and was told by a claims manager: "We are not responsible. These were taxes you your-self calculated that you owed. But I can offer you a voucher for next year’s tax prep.” Yea right! I was pretty peeved. “What do I have to do I asked. File a BBB complaint, protest in front of the store, and go online to blog about this awful experience to anyone who will listen?” To which she said: "Don't forget, we have your personal information like you and your wife's SSN!" I have made numerous attempts to contact higher ups. Again I always get from the customer service department: “We will honor our guarantee.” When I went online and started to blog about this experience I met hundreds of people who have had this same experience. I finally found the executive offices and spoke to Anthony who stated that he would do everything he could. He sent the claim back for a second look and, right again, it was denied this time with the person calling me at work. “Mr. Y, your claim is denied and this is final!” I am planning to sue. I e-mailed the local BBB and was told I would have to file the complaint with BBB where the National Headquarters are in Kansas City. When I tried to do this I was told that I could not file a complaint from out of state. So what good is the BBB? One blogger stated that this company “is very bad about denying claims and feels that they are too big to be touched by an individual. “ This is just another symptom of the cancer that is poor customer service. It can and does destroy companies. I plan to ensure that this company shuts their doors in Pensacola by whatever legal and peaceful means available to me as a consumer. On Monday at 5:00 P.M. I am planning to shoot a You-tube video of the store front and tell my story. I plan to have a large group there. I will show them a “piece of my The coporate headquarters are in KC, MO, their agent is in Orlando, FL but their local office is here in Pensacola, FL. I am suing in Small Claims Court. Open Question: Does anybody know if green stool could be a sign of colon cancer?

Today when I went to the bathroom, my stool was greenish. It almost looked like it had green moss growing on it. Does anybody know if this is a sign of colon cancer? I've had other colon cancer symptoms as well lately and I have a doctors appointment scheduled for July 6th. I've never heard of green stool being a symptom of colon cancer, but I am just curious. more

Open Question: He's sweating a lot every night. What could it be?

After reading some scary stuff online about this as a symptom of lung cancer, diabetes, sarcoidosis, etc., I decided to just post my specific case here in case I'm...I don't know, overreacting? I just moved in with my boyfriend a little over a month ago, and we've noticed that despite the AC (kept at about 72 or 73), he sweats enough to visibly dampen the sheets every night. The sweat is a strange sweet/salty odor, I guess. I would actually compare it to my menstrual cycle (I'm sorry for how gross that sounds). It's unclear whether or not this is something that just started or has been constant for him because he didn't even notice until I pointed it out. He moved from a barracks room by himself to an apartment with me, so I suppose it may be environmental, but I'm certain that the barracks room was warmer than ours. He does need to be completely under the large comforter in order to be comfortable enough to sleep, and his barracks comforter was thinner there. Also, the sheets we bought are 100% cotton, though they have a much larger thread count, I believe. We might cuddle up to each other for a few minutes initially, but within 15 minutes, we roll over to get our own space, and so for the most part aren't touching. I would not say that he looks after his health awfully well...He's 23 and has been smoking since he was about 16 . He drinks (beer) on a daily basis, and his tolerance is high enough at this point that he'll drink anywhere from 6 to 12 beers a night without getting buzzed --which is about how much he has nightly. I've heard that alcohol can cause night sweats if consumption is within an hour of sleeping, but this isn't always the case (i.e., sometimes it's been more than an hour...I think :-/ ) He eats fast food multiple times a week; probably between 2 and 4. Otherwise, he eats things with a lot of protein --very few fruits and veggies. He's about 5'7" and weighs about 160 with a naturally muscular build and a little bit of a belly simply because he doesn't work out. (He's an airplane mechanic.) I know that's a bunch of information. I really hope someone can help. Please don't answer me with scary stuff if it's just "I heard from a friend of a friend's aunt something-or-rather...". I don't mean to be ungrateful --I just don't want to worry more needlessly. 8-( more

Open Question: I know it's a long shot, but...signs of anal cancer?

I'm only 22, and I'm probably just being over-cautious, but for a couple weeks now I've noticed this bump on the inner area of my anus and it hasn't gone away yet. It doesn't hurt and it doesn't interfere with my bowel movements or anything like that, and it's very unlikely that it's STD related, I don't have any symptoms or discomfort or anything, and I've definitely never had anal sex. It's cyst-like, could it possibly be anal cancer? Is it even possible to get that at my age? i do ask that only someone experienced or has first hand knowledge of this subject, im looking for information so please no comments telling me to just go to a doctor thank you ok well it started 4 days ago .. i had a sharp pain to the left of my heart (almost in armpit) everytime i EXHALED deeply! i suffer with anxiety.. i was fine but because i was having fluttering palpitations until i replaced coffee with green tea i couldnt help but worry if i had an undiagnosed heart condition! these past few months i have had fears of having cancer and alsorts all my anxiety symptoms have been mild.. ok now for the current stuff 4 days ago i had sharp but not unbearable pain while exhaling deeply, this worried me and kept me awake all night even though it was subsiding, next day it was gone but as the day progressed i began having mild (barely there) pains in my general chest area and left arm discomfort that lasted 2 days coming and going and today i woke up fine again but am having chest fullness and a heavy kinda feeling when i INHALE deeply. this is also coming and going, and still having some left arm discomfort along with some moderate spasms on the left side of my chest that last for less than a second!! facts about me that will be important 21 years old, male non smoker, NO family history of any heart disease or attacks before the age of 95 recently changed diet to include more fruit and HDL cholesterol before you call me crazy remember i have anxiety and im totaly convinced im having a slow heart attack. my main questions here are, could this be a heart attack?? can the symptoms last for this long before the stage where you .. collapse?? should i even go to a doctor?? these are all very mild symptoms, notes: no dizziness, no nausea, no blackouts, no extreme pain! thank you so much for reading all this crap for me and if you can provide me with some info on heart attacks or diseases and if my symptoms are too mild to be something serious. thanks more

First off I just turned 19, I'm a male and am perfectly healthy. However, all of a sudden 3 days ago, I started having very frequent urination. It wasnt like I peed normally each time I went. USually I pee, then 2 minutes later I pee but a few drops come out. and i feel the drops inside of me and they make it uncomfortable. Then a few minutes after that I have more than a few drops of urine but not a normal full amount of a stream. Also when I go to urinate those smaller amounts, it takes me like 30 seconds of concentration and relaxation to let it come out(hesitation). Im scared as to what this could be, and I made an appointment with a urologist for Wednesday. My parents think of me as a hypochondriac and are saying I definitely have a urinary tract infection. I looked up the symptoms of a UTI and I dont have pain during urination, no blood, and no pain. I dont have an STD because im not sexually active. This is really freaking me out because it just started out of nowhere one night. Its an annoyance, but Im scared about serious diseases such as cancer (Carcinophobia) Thanks more

i am a 17 year old male. in november 2008 i started having symptoms that resemble hemmorrhoids, i have bleeding once in a while usually when i have a long bowel movement it is bright red and minor, and sometimes there is somethin like a clear discharge on the toilet paper (maybe nothing?), and i feel constipated about 85% of the time.. could this be hemmorrhoids or could it be colon or anal cancer?? please help..im not constipated where i cannot go just where it is sometime harder than others to have a bowel movement..can hemmorrhoids last up to 7 or 8 months?? more
