We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank Kool-aid made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because,

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day. And we were OK.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computer! s, no Internet or chat rooms......
WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.
We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.
We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not poke out very many eyes.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!

moreVoting Question: wifi usb or wifi router help?
My apartment neighbor has a router connected to dsl cable as well as to a wifi spot. She connects it to her:
1. PC through cable
2. a wifi ready laptop, and
3. uses a usb adapter for another antique laptop.
I live across and am allowed to access internet through my wifi ready laptop (connected to her). Problem is, I also have a desktop and would like to grant it internet access for updates. Is it okay for me to just buy a usb wifi adapter, same as what she is using for her antique laptop (no built-in wifi)
My desktop doesn't have a modem nor my laptop. I also dont have a phone line so cant use a router. If I buy an adapter, will it freely connect immediately to the available connection. Does it have stronger signal compared to a router? Can I share freely my files from laptop to desktop? And what is this antenna booster will it help boost speed?

my neighbour is my friend and hes letting me use his wireless till i the cable guy comes out to install my internet.
so i how can i boost my wireless, i dont think you can build a cantana because wireless uses two diffrent signals (i might be wrong) but is there a wire that i could hook up to the male side and plug it into the female antena so i can can the antena farther away and closer to the router across the street.
my pci card has two antenas btw if that helps
moreVoting Question: Can I use two hubs/routers on one internet account?
The PC I use for work is not wireless so needs to be directly connected to the router by ethernet. My router is wireless enabled and so I run my laptop internet usage off that. The problem is that my PC is in the office in the garage which is completely separate from the house (so I can't run an ethernet cable between them) and I use my laptop inside the house - but that means the wireless signal in the house isn't great. I've already bought a booster for the router and it didn't really make any difference. Frustrating.
Is there any way I can plug the wireless router indoors and buy a separate hub to plug into the phone socket in the office (same phone line as house) in order to connect my PC?
Help!? Thanks...
moreResolved Question: Where to put a cable tv or coax signal booster?
Outside my home the cable tv (from comcast) comes in and is connected to a 5-way splitter. One of these connections is connected to another 2-way splitter in a room where I have my replay tv and digital cable connected. My digital cable in the den works ok not much problem with quality (only rarely) but the one in the bedroom has video problems and goes down every now and then. Where should I plug this up at? Inside or outside? If outside will it improve the quality of all wall jacks in the house?
Side questions: Is there a signal booster that will replace my 5-way splitter outside? If so where may I aquire it? Radioshack does not carry it and the salesmen made me feel stupid for asking such a question by staring at me with a long and awkward silence. Also will it help my comcast high speed internet? I supposed to be getting 6mbps but I download at a cool 776kbs. I have a suspicion that as far as my cable internet is concerned, I have been weighed, measured and been found wanting. Oh and this is at all times of day and night.
moreResolved Question: 3Mbit Cable Internet Speed Question?
My cable internet provider quoted me for 3Mbit connection. What does that equate out to be for my download speed? I was just curious because I'm only getting a max, even downloading multiple files, of 160-175kbps. Now my next question, if I should be able to get better download speeds, is would an inline cable signal booster help, or does the amount of cable you have and/or amount of tv's hooked up matter?
I know my current download speed. I posted it in the question. What I needed to know is what kind of speeds should I be getting. And what would slow that speed down in my house. Not what everyone else in the neighbor hood is doing. Thanks Everyone.

My gf lives in a shared house with the internet but know one can pick up the wireless signal. The router is 20meters away cause of where the phone connection is and it isnt possible to move it closer. Is there any way I can booster the wireless signal so that every one in the rooms up stairs can pick it up?? I tried using a 25M telephone cable to move the router closer but that didnt work. The longer the range the better! Can I plug some thing by usb in to my g/fs laptop to boost the signal range?
The router is from sky broad band and all I can tell you is that is black in colour.Lol
I have sky at my own place and have had for a while and the router is a netgear and a very good one at that so I cant understand why sky have changed to a different router recently.

Straight to the point...About 3 days ago I was could connect to my wireless internet which is about 2-3 feet away from my laptop. Yesterday I took disconnected my desktop and stored it in the garage because I don't use the desktop anymore because my laptop is faster and newer.I have a Linksys wrt54gs and the easy link advisor was installed in the desktop.Since I dont use the desktop anymore I installed it on the laptop.I found 2 CD's one says Wireless - N and the other says Wireless - G.I installed the wireless N and everything and secured it with WPA...When I went into Wireless Connections it found my connection with 100% signal but when it connects it says acquiring network address and stays there forever...
Sooo...I unsecured my connection to no protection at all and still the same thing. Before I could connect wirelessly no problem at all when it was on the desktop. The only thing I think i did wrong was that on the router itself it says Wireless G with speed booster and I install Wireless N.
I can only connect with the cable and my PS3 connects fine wirelessly
So all I have to do is uninstall the program?
if it was working fine before im guessing Wireless Zero is already installed

Also, my dad was able to connect to the internet using the same cable with his laptop via the same cable i am trying to get my desktop to use.
i checked drivers, all should be correct

I have an HP desktop, do i just get a wireless card for it? Is my linksys router even needed if i do this? I need some advice.

Those Born From 1930-1979
READ TO THE BOTTOM FOR QUOTE OF THE MONTH, BY JAY LENO. IF YOU DON'T READ ANYTHING ELSE---VERY WELL STATED
TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the 1930s, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's!!
First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.
Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.
As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags.
Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.
We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank Kool-aid made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because,
WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet or chat rooms........
WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cuts, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.
We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.
We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!
Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!
These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!
The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!
If YOU are one of them, CONGRATULATIONS!
You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good.
While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave (and lucky) their parents were.
Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it?!

For those that prefer to think that God is not watching over us...go ahead and delete this.
For the rest of us...pass this on.

My cable is fuzzy, and I need to fix it. The main connection in the house is split with one connection leading to cable internet and televisions in the basement and the other leading into a booster/splitter. The picture coming from the booster / splitter is getting a bad picture, with most channels not even working. I am hoping that the booster isn't working anymore and I just need to replace it. Should I try getting a booster only for one of the televisions that have bad signals or should I try installing a new booster to the main line? Can I stack these things, ie have a booster going into another booster? PLEASE HELP, I MISS TV!!!!

here it goes.. i am connected to internet through cable/DSL. usually i'm able to download files at the speed of 44 to 46KB/sec but after i'd defragment files and installed UNIBLUE's REGISTRY BOOSTER 2 and SPEED UP MY PC 3, (both were original, i bought it the other day) i am now downloading files at the speed of 3 to 10 KB/sec! GAAAAH! what will i do now? thanks for your answers.
yep, 44-46 is still pretty slow because my DSL connection is only 512kbps that means that i only maximized my downloads at around 50kbps.
moreResolved Question: What is wrong with my computer?
I have a Gateway GT5408. I upgraded it to 4 Gig of Ram (Max). Running Vista home Premium, 320 Gig HD, etc. etc.
I have WOW Cable internet, (the fastest they offer 6.0 - speed tests always come up 6695 kpbs download, 667 kbps upload)
I have trend micro antivirus (never any issues), ad-aware - free version (no issues) & Registry Booster 2 (full version) and system tweaker (full version) both with no issues.
My problem is this. When surfing internet online, system is still slow and keeps switching me to a Gateway search page error. I have no clue how to fix this. I thought I was a responsible user with all of the software protection, but something has to be wrong.
PS - I already checked the start up menu and don't have hardly anything running in the background. Also I do have 52 processes running, but I checked them all and according to definition, they all seem to be necessarry components. Someone told me it may be my WOW modem. I'm lost and looking for any help.
moreResolved Question: What did my wireless router do to my Internet??
I recently bought a new Linksys wireless router (2.4 GHz with speed booster). After I installed it, my download and upload times cut in half by two (speedtest.net). I plugged my ethernet cable into my modem and the speed went back up to normal. I did all of these tests with my laptop and Xbox live off and I had security on. What should I do?
Well the Firedog worker said this would be enough. Which router would you recomend for two laptops, a desktop and Xbox live?
I set it up right.. twice..
moreVoting Question: Where can I get a working download speed booster?
I have regular cable, and I need to download things constantly, for game developing, and the things I download are uselay big...
The download speed for my internet is usaly 10-15kb/s.
It takes forever to download things, like some models I need to get for my game, 280MB, takes about 5 or 6 hours, I don't want to have to wait that much time, I realy don't have the time anyway.
So I need a download speed booster, I mean if I can get my download speed up to 18-22kb/s it would be fantastic for me, though I would like higher...
Where can I get a free download speed booster?
***I have already tried DAP it works kindove good I gues, but my download speed stays the same***
Thanks!

moreResolved Question: Is there any way to boost the wifi reception on a laptop?
I have a Compaq Presario V6500 series, it has an internal wireless card of some sort (not pcmcia). I need to boost the reception to reach a neighbor's router, it sort of works sometimes with a Sony Vaio S460 but the Compaq has weaker reception. And yes, I've talked to my neighbor - they said it would be okay, I tried to get a cable/dsl line but cannot get service at the moment because this is a new area.
Can I buy a router and hook it up to my laptop, would it work as an antenna/signal booster? Or is there some kind of external antenna I can buy for an internal laptop wifi card? Any solution will be gladly recieved, I would buy internet but can't :( and I am desperate.
moreResolved Question: Does a cable internet connection get weaker when more people in the area are using thier service?
My cable modem constantly looses its connection at peak times, between 8pm-11pm. My cable TV works fine. If I unhook the splitter and plug the main line into the modem i get a signal, but then can not watch tv. After 11pm I can usually hook up the splitter and the tv and modem and everything will work.
I have replaced the splitter, replaced the cables and made sure they were all fastened tightly to the cable box and modem and this still happenes on a nightly basis.
Comcast says they checked the signal strength and everthing is normal.
So I think the problem is because they do not have enough juice in the lines to handle peak traffic in my area, could I be right? And is there some kind of signal booster I could get to stop this issue?
That is what I though but the tech from Comcast is denying this and insists that it is my equipment causing the problems.
I will try asking to be put on a different switch or cancel my service and get DSL
It's not like losing connectivity 3 hours will kill me but I am paying for this, so I expect it to work.
